The Tao of JKDChick: JKDChick's Dirty Little Secret

The Tao of JKDChick: JKDChick's Dirty Little Secret

A new article for you all to tear apart, Part 1 of 4 of a series about the emotional and social aspects of training.

Lying awake at night, trying to catalogue exactly what hurts the most, hoping this might help me get to sleep, I occasionally run across one of those little compartments everyone makes in their brain. You know, where you sock away the thoughts and ideas that you just know are true and don’t want to think about.

That TKD sucks. That ‘fat, lazy and defensive’ might not be the best fitness stance. That one of those young guys you see at the local MMA gym might be able to kick your ass, despite all your chi sau drills ...

This one's pretty personal guys and I'm probably not going to be making any comments about it beyond what's already written, nor reading what you guys write. I hope it sparks some debate, though.

JKDChick, I think you hit the head on the nail. I've been thinking a lot about the "not giving up when you did before" thing in my life recently too. It's happened in my training more than once. It's what I think the true purpose of martial arts is; to give people transforming empowerment. Maybe the Kung Fu guys were right, maybe the martial arts are symbolic of all other situations in life. Thank you for the inspiration. I'm in a bad spot right now and this really helped.

And, oh yeah, JKD WINS AGAIN!
