    Question for heavybag owners

I just got a new thai bag. It's way, way softer than I anticipated. It's a 100 lb. ringside thai bag and it's got the shredded cloth filling.

How long does it take for the filling to settle significantly? And is there a good/easy way to accelerate the process and make the thing harder? The ones at my school are hard enough that they hurt and I wanted something like that for home. Mine is spongy and it doesn't seem like it's going to help my conditioning any until it hardens.

if it's the leather one, i have had it for the last couple of years and it's only gotten softer... it's just not that type of bag. it's really the layer of foam inside the cover that makes it soft.

the bottom will harden a bit for your low kicks, but it will never be like the ones at your gym.

If the bottom hardens at all I'll be happy. Looks like I'll still be conditioning with sticks in the meantime.

I never tried this, so it's just a guess, and I don't know if it will work. That said maybe if you got a roll of duct tape or some sort of fabric ribbon like 2 to 3 inches across, and wrap the bag tight, it may reduce the plasticity of the bag surface thereby making it "harder."

Or you could try and return it to get a different one that you like out of the box.

Some styles will use copper cables for conditioning purposes. Though I have not been exposed to that sort of thing. Repeated body contact will condition the area.

However, it's not necessairily a good idea to just "invent" some conditioning program using sticks to beat yourself.
