Not really. When the bb's were talking about the Judo Chop it was more for just talk about striking in Judo. I have no idea if it is traditional, thow I would like to know...well, lots of places train just enough striking to do self defense techniques and call that "atemi-waza" - is there some more traditional atemi-waza you're refering too? -

Can't comment on judo teaching this, but I can imagine most instructors of any MA suggesting it as a self defence type strategy. -
