Because everybody who hears "ground", and has zero decent experience with it, fails to understand that training "for the ground" means training for control of it. That means being able to avoid it and/or use it advantageously.

"If you're a LEO The last place you want to be is on the ground rolling around. I would suggest something more practical...like______"

If you hear that, you're listening to J.C. Pennys security and a JJJ practitioner....at best.

On another note, does anyone knows the name of the song being played on the clip? :5dunce:
Read this for flexibility and injury prevention, this, this and this for supplementation, this on grip conditioning, and this on staph. New: On strenght standards, relationships and structural balance. Shoulder problems? Read this.

My crapuous vlog and my blog of training, stuff and crap. NEW: Me, Mrs. Macho and our newborn baby.

New To Weight Training? Get the StrongLifts 5x5 program and Rippetoe's "Starting Strength, 2nd Ed". Wanna build muscle/gain weight? Check this article. My review on Tactical Nutrition here.

t-nation - Dissecting the deadlift. Anatomy and Muscle Balancing Videos.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

I think its a question of pride. Some people have been doing martial arts in a particular style for so long, they don't wish to be made to feel like a beginner by getting into grappling/groundfighting and starting all over again.
    I like this comment.

Though it shouldn't make them feel like such junk if they realize that grappling is very very different.

    Maybe thier just misinformed.

I think we can safely conclude from this evidence that 1) people with no training cannot fight and 2) all arguments about street versus ring are bullshit.

This was OBVIOUSLY some sort of challenge match with an established rule set... In case you didn't notice them breaking and getting back to their feet.

    Nice try.

I actually find most MMA matches to be really boring if I'm not watching them in person. I find boxing and kickboxing more entertaining anyway. Plus I don't have the TV channels required to watch it.
