Um, very little by way of groundfighting. You may want to buy a clue if you want to really understand martial arts. Try reading a book by Donn Draeger, that will help your understanding. There is also a bunch of information on the web but it is more difficult to seperate fact from fiction.

Think of what your goals are, and then do your research.

And there is no standard JJJ, unless you mean Takenouchi -ryu or TSKS-ryu, I think that those have the longest lineages. Definitely read up so you don't get smart ass answers to your vague questions.

Hapkido is the cruder korean brother of aikido.

Hapkido uses joint manipulations in conjunction with your own weight. So if you want compliance and the person doesn't you apply more of your body weight to break something.

It also uses the same centripal principles as aikido (enter and turn; disrupt center)

    JJJ

It replies on simple trips and throws as well as joint manipulation. However JJJ does have wrestling, it's more of a stand up style like judo.

all depends on the club really...
where I did JJJ they did some grappling (on the ground) + judo (standing up) techniques...

where I now do hapkido, we mostly start off just sparring (standing up), but end on the ground (grappling/locks)...

but to answer the topicstarting question: a lot of similarities indeed - just go and try both and do whatever suits you best. Hapkido will probably have more kicks + acrobatic jumping, rolling and falling. + use of the circular system, but you can also have some aikido influenced JJJ (which I practiced) and then you will also practice a circular system...

(my first post - dunno if I reopened a dinosaur - just used the search function on hapkido...) :icon_tong

Basically, its gonna depend on where you train. By that I mean that the curriculem will vary from dojo to dojo in both arts.
The place where I train hapkido we train striking skills, Aikido style locking and momentum throws, more hard-style judo throws, and we train ground skills. It doesnt compare to the BJJ stuff, its mainly positioning drills with a few submissions, but Hapkido advocates groundfighting only until you can safley stand up. As far as which I would choose to train in, try out the Hapkido, but if they dont seem comfortable with groundfighting, then go looking for something else.

I have two years of experience in JJJ and I left the club a worse fighter than I was when I joined it. JJJ sucks ass.

You need both to be a truly complete fighter. Luckily I have them. These, with my Kenpo as a child make me extremely dangerous. Even to look at.

Translation: it's just as gay but doesn't use lube while doing you in the A, instead it uses the slime you have the from the hersey squirts.
