Because we love it when newbs start yet another "What's the matter with -ing -un?" thread, instead of utilizing the SEARCH FUNCTION.

Don't mind all these guys ragging on you. Its just the gentle hazing everyone gets this side of newbietown. Friendly banter, that's all. Now many people here just don't understand wing chun. They don't see the true value of its quick hand strikes, forearm sensitivity, advanced trapping and anti-grappling techniques chunners develop thru chi sao and compliant self defence drills. There is a lot of jealousy that wing chun can associate itself with bruce lee to draw in lots of students which artists of other styles wish they could do as well. The greatest martial artist of all time based his system on wing chun, and not everyone can say that. Bulshidoka don't place enough importance on the lineage of a style either, and if you don't know where you've come from you can't understand where you going! Too much emphasis on violent competition at bullshido as well, so no one here really understands the nature of a truly respectful martial art. And that's why alot of the time on this forum wing chun gets bashed by people who don't really understand how effective its conceptual theories make a fighter. So bullshido isn't the place the most productive discussion on wing chun can take place.
But don't worry, if you want to the best discussion that's really informative it is easy to find. Here at www.themartialist.com you'll find lots of quality info and advice about wing chun. Go on, have a look around. The forums are really great, full of proper debate and overseen by a real martial artist who goes by the name of Sharp Phil. Check it out. You won't regret it I'm sure. -

BJJ might make you a better ground fighter, but Judo will make you a better dancer.

"whats the problem with wing chun?"
Watch this: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...Cheung&pl=true
Now while you may be forgiven for thinking you're watching a bitch fight between the two finalists of the 2006 mincing championships, you are in fact watching two proponents of _ing _un have it out. Not any two proponents either, no, these men are the amongst foremost practitioners of the art, they have dedicated their lives to studying this deadly, devastatingly effective combat system which allows them to overcome any opponent with ease regardless of their training or physical attributes.
Not terribly fucking impressive is it? -

that video has been so abused its rediculous. GM Cheung has a reputation among many martial artists as being a real fighter who has proven himself time and again. Bruce Lee revered him as an incredible fighter; Dan Inosanto confirmed this. he won tournament fights in Hong Kong, he won many street fights and roof-top battles, and along with Wong Shun Leung. He lived with Yip Man and learned with him privately, and also helped train Bruce Lee. and look at his style of Wing Chun: so different and so revolutionary compared to the "modified" schools, with footwork very similar to boxing. the man has also been recognized by military programs, schools of medicine, and universities.

Cheung is supposed to be an incredible fighter, but no one said the man was invincible or could walk through walls. and what does the video show? a young, desperate phony trying to make a name for himself by slugging it out with GM Cheung. problem is, i don't see any clean hits; i think Cheung blocked them pretty well. he didn't attempt to hit back or hurt Boztepe for reasons that were critical to him. and after Boztepe and his crew run away, i believe Cheung finished his seminar.
but i know most of you want to have a much more critical conclusion from this video because you don't like or respect Cheung for whatever reason. maybe read about the circumstances surrounding the video and be a little more objective. but if that's not enough, Grandmaster Cheung is currently staying with Master Keith Mazza in Mount Laurel, NJ. he will be in the area for at least a few weeks. please feel free to stop by the Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy in Mount Laurel, NJ. give your best to Master Keith; many have become his students after challenging his skills. or even ask to spar with some of his students. then Bullshido can put this one to bed.
