And by the way, did you know yer Soke Hatsumi wrote a book on pistols in the mid 80's? The book is full of pics of him dressed as a cowboy teaching Hayes to use it like some sort of club, knocking the crap out of people with it. I think he may have missed the point.
First: He isn't my Grandmaster. He simply holds master licensing in many of the same Ryu-Ha I study.

Second: Ha! Thats really funny. But was the point to so how to use a pistol after you run out of ammo? Personally, at that point I just draw my knife.

How do you find the Voyager? Is that the big 5" blade version?

I carry a Camillus CUDA Maxx 5.5, their licensed version of Darrel Ralph's Mad Maxx. Fantastic knife for the price. Closed, it's a heck of a fist pack. Open, you have five and a half inches of blade and a 6" grip, so leverage is not a problem.

    Also, it is purty.

Ha, the picture of Hatsumi with the hat on cracked me up.

Does anyone know how good Cold Steel knives are? I got the DVD of their "proof" on how good they are but I really don't know anything about knives yet so I know i'm not the right person to judge it. They seem to be good blades though and for a pretty fair price usually. They also make some of the stuff that is usually sold as a "fantasy blade" like katanas, pu daos, sjamboks and yes, even sword canes. It seems like a cool place, especially if you want something that's usually made crappy like a sword cane. But then again, I don't know anything about knives so any insight on Cold Steel is appreciated.

I have a shitty Maxam knife with 420 steel that I got for free. The handle is such a joke. It's like McDonald's toy plastic. I'd be more worried about that snapping than the blade. Either way, it's all i've got right now. I used to carry it to school and sometimes other places just in case something happened but after about 5 months of that and all I took it out for was to open a box, I started leaving it at home. The fact that im only 17 and live in Wisconsin makes the idea of me carrying a knife even stupider. In fact, one time, I almost brought my knife with me on the night my buddy got pulled over because he was driving erratically and the police patted us down. I was glad I left it at home and haven't taken it anywhere since. I really have no reason other than the moderately unlikely chance I get robbed or something. Also, i've heard about a law that says it's legal to carry an unconcealed knife as long as its under, I think, four inches, with no specifications on age. I don't know how credible that is, though.

    SUCH AS:

1.) The Doomglider- A small balsa wood glider with razor blades and a string attatched, so that the user can throw it at his opponant, then reel it back in for a second use.

2.) Solid Gold Battleship- That's right. A battleship made out of solid gold. That do anything for ya? I shall cruise the seas, in a ship made entirely from gold, taking what I will, destroying that which I do not wish to take.

2.5.) Lead Battleship- Provides better protection than the SGB.

    3.) Rabid Weasles- Self explanatory.

    4.) This Thing-:oo: :qright4:

Cold steel knives are excellent. If you can afford them, grab one. Another good brand is Chris Reeve knives out of Idaho.

Cold Steel gets badmouthed a lot, especially on internet groups, because their marketing is way over the top. Their hype does get ridiculous at times.

However, the knives are usually pretty good stuff, though some models have been switched to downgraded steels in the last few years.

It's kind of like the karate dojo where the instructor can take all comers, but he advertises the ability to break flaming boards and perform the "unbendable arm" trick. If you separate Cold Steel knives from the marketing hype, most are good value for the money.

Yea, I figured the marketing was just a bit silly. And for anyone who's been inspired by certain posts in this thread....
    http://www.coldsteel.com/swordcane2nds.html
they have a "factory second" sword cane on sale.
