Ill be competing in my 1st BJJ tourny

I would advise against this because it is not in the spirit of friendly competition. If you lose your first comp because you utilize only a small part of the whole, you end up short changing your developement. I would suggest, try to utilize good Judo and enjoy the liberties that a BJJ comp allows, if you lose, you learn, if you win, you won fighting well and its done the right way.

The drive to win at all costs is arrogant, it is not a fight, and definitely not a fight for your life, it should be approached as a learning opportunity.

If you are anywhere near Alberta Canada there is a series of tournaments called: "Mind, Body and Soul" Where you fight everyone in your division for 5 minute rounds. There are no points scored during the fights, but if you win by submission you get a point towards the final standings and a longer break before your next fight.

By all reports these are fantastic tournaments.

to answer a question about my rank in Judo, our club doesnt have them, you earn a team belt if you compete in 10 tournaments, since Judo tournaments are done by wieght and double elimination, our coach thinks its better to approach Judo from a western perspective. check out my club at WWW.JUDOINC.COM.
