Changing his mind what? And TKD Black Belt, why are you criticizing another TKDer trying to defend TKD?
I'm not changing my mind on anything. I've always known that Muay Thai training methods are superior. But to me and the other millions of TKD practitioners, TKD is a valid method of standup fighting.
And the claims that TKD is just flippy floppy slap kicking are complete bullshit in my view b/c most TKD competitors manage to kick very hard even though they're earning points. -

TKD power kicking
All of us familiar with MT kicks know they hit hard.
However, in WTF matches I have seen or know of the following, a broken collar bone (KO), a ruptured spleen (KO), a death from a back kick to the head, many broken ribs, a broken shin (from a front kick to it), and a crushed sinus from spin heel kick (KO).
To rupture a spleen is not an easy thing to do, it was two heavy weights and that was through the hogu.
Now, I don't practice TKD anymore, and I have a lot of problems with its effectiveness overall. However, to say that there are not people in TKD who can kick very hard and can hurt you may be a little delusional.
Percentage wise there are many more TKD players than MT people. So you are less likely to see the more effective kickers in TKD, but they are there. Usually they do move on though unless they just like the competition.
