Hee! I see sarcasm doesn't translate too well online. What I never understood was how a man with actual credibility and provable lineage like Villari would sell out in such a way that YMCA senseis would point and laugh at him.

Be that as it may, we tend to refer to the class as "grappling" on paper (as in "Grapping this Saturday!"), but the instructor tends to refer to it in class as "ground fighting" or "ground defense", and he's quick to point out that for advanced grappling skills or to be a serious grappler, we'd need to actually enroll in a grappling course.

And I've watched the way they promote students as well. Let's put it like this: if I had a black belt, then I'd be worried. I'm going on my 4th year, and I'm just now training for greenstripe. That's pretty slow, mainly because I had to take time off for a non-related injury, but most of us that came in at the same time are various degrees of green and brown. I've seen schools guarantee a black belt in 18 months, and I just shake my head. They can't be learning ****, I don't care who's teaching them.
You'd have been swinging at air - I wasn't born until '82. ;)

I'll ask around for schools in the USC area. The martial arts market in California is HUGE, with a lot of high priced chains with inexperienced instructors heading them...but there are also many quality schools.
To make my search easier, are you intent on staying with Shaolin Kempo...or are you willing to explore other styles? What about other forms of Ke?po like American/EPAK/Kajukenbo/etc...?
Your pictures paint you as athletic-looking, and you definately seem pretty aggressive...would you be averse to training Muay Thai or Boxing? You could probably get into a boxing gym for very little money.
Regardless, I'll see what I can find. Clyde, Omega, and Poidog would also be great sources to ask as well.
The fact that your instructor tells the class to "enroll in a grappling class" for complete training is pretty commendable. If he encourages cross training, then he can't be all that bad. You end up in trouble when someone starts claiming to have all the answers...yet refuses outside information.
As for UpaLumpa...he's kind of like the attention starved latchkey kid we all know.
He seems to have a strange fixation on me...which I find kind of flattering. Even though I've explained the methods of training that Kara Ho uses (resistance training, hard sparring, etc...), pointed out that one of my instructors is a boxer and another is a cage fighter, and explained that I also currently train in Machado BJJ...he still enjoys pasting pictures of Grandmaster Kuoha.
Here are the threads where he first began to give me ****.
Me:

Him:

Me inviting him to experience Kara Ho, and questioning the basis for his moronic judgements:

His oh so detailed response:

Posters that also saw that he was a waste of sperm:

http://www.bullshido.net/forums/show...5&postcount=54
http://www.bullshido.net/forums/show...1&postcount=49
I kept him off ignore for a while because he occasionally makes useful comments on grappling. Unfortunately, I suppose he still has some issues that he hasn't been able to deal with...even though he's 30 years old this year.
Like any website that allows trolling, the use of the ignore list is invaluable to "Picking the Peanuts out of ****." Please don't let one closeminded poster keep you from participating.
By the way, you gotta love the 1979 haircut on Yrkoon. All he needs now is a pornstar moustache and some flared pants. -

Some people just can't laugh at themselves.

Unfortunately, and of far more importance than your lack of humor, you also missed the point of my post that followed your quote of me:
Here often even trolls have a reason for what they're saying.
