And Royce's fight with Sakuraba certainly continued that trend.

Wait, no. You're full of ****.

That fight had rounds with time limit actually. And it was boring at hell at times, only reason it was watchable was because of Sakuraba who cross-trained in striking.

Ahaha, this must be your scientific wing chun background talking.

Ignoring the fact that most of the eye pokes I have seen happened in free striking, grappling positional hierarchy negates any benefits of all of the following:
    2. Eye gouging of any kind.
    3. Biting.
    5. Fish hooking.
    6. Groin attacks of any kind.
    7. Putting a finger into any orifice or into any cut or laceration on an opponent.
    11. Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea.
    12. Clawing, pinching or twisting the flesh.
In fact, biting or pinching is a good way for people who don't know better techniques to be punished severely in contexts where they are allowed. I've heard numerous reports of biters getting elbowed in the mouth from mount, choked unconcious and getting arms broken.

However, this point was particularly retarded:
    8. Small joint manipulation.
    13. Grabbing the clavicle.
How do rules preventing grappling techniques favour a grappler?

And these fouls (with some overlap) further limit the stand-up artist...
    2. Eye gouging of any kind.
    6. Groin attacks of any kind.
You won't pull either of these off on the ground if you don't know how to grapple. Having been elbowed and kneed in the eye, not to mention sacked a few times, I can say that they will not end the fight from the ground. Given the male imperative of protecting one's groin it wouldn't change the standup game much either.

    11. Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea.
Chin down problem solved. Sounds like you never tried this one yourself.

    14. Kicking the head of a grounded opponent.
    15. Kneeing the head of a grounded opponent.
    16. Stomping a grounded opponent.
These are all legal in other leagues and I have seen these types of attacks end fights less and less as people learned how to defend them from the bottom. Kneeing the head of a downed opponent also requires you know how to grapple so you can maintain control and not be reversed.

    17. Kicking to the kidney with the heel.
Look, I'd love to handcuff you in guard and chip away, but we've already had several entire UFCs of Royce doing that. This is a tool of a defensive grappler.

    18. Spiking an opponent to the canvas on his head or neck.
How does this limit the striker? Wrestlers and Judoka are the only people I've ever seen do this. Oh, wait, I see a pattern! You're a moron!

And finally, protective gear like cups, mouthpieces and gloves favor the grappler more than the stand-up artist.
The cup and mouthpiece are standard in every contact sport in the civilized world. As for gloves, there are still Brazilian vale tudo events where they are not used and you see MORE grappling.

Without these rules in place, the ground would certaintly be a less safe place to be during a true no holds barred match-up.
Only for the striker who fooled himself into thinking the expanded rules would save him.

Unfortunately I can't fully test my hypothesis, but simple analasys of the facts leads me to conclude that the UFC is complete and utter Bullshido.
Instead of pulling up the actual logical fallacy of this statement I'm just going to dub it "The Kungfoolss".

In responce to this I feel there needs to be an inverse to the term Crappling to define just the opposite. A grappler, coddled and delusioned by a fixed ruleset, who calls himself a true Mixed Martial Artist because he learned some very basic Kickboxing which he executes very rigid and ackwardly. Crapboxing, or the Crapboxer would seem quite fitting.
And yet, a shitty frontkick fake for a shoot is all most grapplers need to preface their attack on a pure striker. Who does that term humiliate?

Their heavyweight, light heavyweight and middleweight champions are all very good strikers. They just happen to be good grapplers too. Imagine that.

Of course you wouldn't know anything about that because you watched a UFC fight once and immediately declared it gay because it lacked 720 spin kicks.

Strong Machine is right... there is a definite bias towards striking now.

It's what the rednecks, homophobes, and casual MMA fans want to see.
