    Hell yeah! Hell no!
Even if they do favour grappling, so what, its for the safety of the fighters, which is most important, since its MMA, that makes it more acceptable for grappling to be the most dominant form in the octagon because most fighters know atleast some grappling.

Sorry I assumed the backs of people's heads were exposed when they did takedowns like that. Nevermind then, and please excuse my noobishness.

I don't know how you sprawl, but when I sprawl my legs are in no position knee anything (even if they were, I'd rather crossface than compromise my base.) But then, when I wrestled we were taught to sprawl deep and drive the opponent to the mat, before spinning and taking the back. I suppose MMA sprawling could have more of an emphasis on not going to the ground as opposed to going to the ground in a superior position.

    Watch more Pride.

Edit: I don't personally train to sprawl and then throw knees because there is no way in hell I'll ever be involved in a fight that will allow me to knee a downed opponent (and no I don't care about self defense). But it can be done.

Self defense is the only reason I'd ever train kneeing a downed opponent...

"But officer, I sprawled out and rode it to the ground. We ended up in north-south, and what am I supposed to do if not start kneeing the back of his head?"
