Basically the Lineage of the Kukushiden is Takamastsu Sensei studied Kukishin Ryu from the Kuki family and achieved Menkyo Kaiden. He started teaching his version of it calling it Kukishinden (Kukishin Style). Hatsumi and Tanemura learned the Kukishinden. Kukishin Ryu != Kukishinden. Kukishiden is different interruptation (Takamastsu's) of the Kuki Family Arts.
Kind of. He was the inheritor of the Ryu-ha before he went to China. He was there so long the Kuki family thought he died there, so they named another successor. When he cam back (Aaaawkward) they gave him permission to create another branch.

Perhaps this would help clear things up...

I have to admit, I did not expect to see myself here of all places. Interesting.

I have not done it myself, but I suppose it could be done. It would be rather odd.

Have you considered that "throws using the hanbo" may not refer to throwing a hanbo at some one but, rather, throwing someone using a hanbo.

If you are unclear on what I mean, you might want to have a look at Hatsumi-sensei's "Stick Fighting" (where many of the techniques and concepts taught in the seminar originated). I have seen it at a number of book store chains over the years. It is also readily available at amazon.com.

I can, however, see how you might interpret the class description to mean that a hanbo might be taught to be thrown as a projectile weapon.

In the future, if you should come across any thing that i post that you don't understand or that you might think is bullshit (and thus deserving of being posted on this forum), please feel free to contact me at oniyama@texas.net and I will be glad to address any questions or concerns. I realize that might not be as enteratining as posting here but it will get you more direct and accurate information.

    I hope this helps.

    Take care,
