Jujitsu or Judo for Self Defense?

Hello! I am new to the board/forum and wanted to ask everyone what their opinion is on the following:

Judo or Jujitsu for being most effective in real world self defense/street encounters?

    Looking forward to your thoughts!

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Judo didn't teach me how to deal with a larger person having the top position or how to deal with strikes. However, Judo is better if you are reffering to Japanese jujitsu.

Also, this is in the wrong forum.

Erm when it comes to Judo VS BJJ its...

1 on 1: BJJ, the ground fighting is basically just a more complete version of Judo.

Streetfights (which are rarely 1on1): Judo because you can throw your opponent down and stay standing and therefore avoid getting stomped on by the guys friends while laying around in your guard like BJJ guys like to do.

And since everyone who does BJJ seems to do BJJ/MT you could be all different and do Boxing/Judo to compensate. Both are typically cheap too. And you wouldn't have any of that crappy acronym **** either.

Why arn't there more Judo/Boxing guys around anyway? :love7:

If we are talking about self defense situations, then its Judo.

Japanses Ju Jitsu schools are fine except alot of them do not do much sparring.

For street self defense situations I'd still say Judo is a better choice that BJJ. Judo covers throws and takedows so much more than BJJ. If you lift somone and dump them hard on concrete, you won't need to armbar them, or worry about gaining good position trust me.

    Thnaks.

But I don't wanna rule out BJJ. A decent BJJ school will teach you how to double leg someone and bring them down. I suppose for self defense matters you can get by on that.....

If you are talking about self deffense and not ring fighting, wouldn't you better off learning something that won't put you on the ground, at the mercey of someone's boot?
