People often tell me that I fail to see the gravity of the situation.
I see the gravity, and I say...

Step right up folks and watch me defy gravity!

That's the intent with the FiveSeven round. It's designed to stop in tissue and not over penetrate, but still punch through metal/kevlar. Two/three layers of sheetrock can stop it (so they advertise.)

The round sure seems like it's a series of design contradictions, that's for sure.

For home defense I'm assuming the ideal would be a round with low penetration and decenct stopping power, am I correct?

I think this might be the way to go then:

Anyone else think an incendiary round inside a house might be a bad idea?

Yeah i am inclined to agree. It is a .25 calibur with 2500+ fps but will not over penetrait. Do they use speical projectiles or somthing?

Do you mean, no body count, no big deal kind of thing?

I see violent criminals all the time (almost every day) So I don't think violent crime is all that rare (you must live in Palo Alto). Shooting into houses is probably more rare, I wouldn't expect the common thief to do it as part of their robbery scheme. They're more into stealth. Some burglars may go into it with violence in mind (particularly rape) but most want to grab some loot and go.

The types I've had in the past break in and steal money (wallets/purses) and grab the car keys and make off with the cars without waking anybody up. They don't want to deal with people.

It depends. For a home invasion I pull the famliy into the walk in closet quickly, and wait for the bastards to bottleneck themselves in the door. If I hear a crash followed by silence, I call the cops and wait. If I can't get ahold of them, I use the cell. If that doesn't work, or I don't want to make any noise, I'd clear the house, but that would be my option of last resort. It's dangerous, unpredictable, and as much as I love my 5'2" 110 lb redheaded wife, I do not trust her to have my back in a firefight.
