Good post, awesome article, thanks for translating. It makes me want to start training more. Its like my MT instuctor told me once, people complain too much, they want to learn to fight, but when they find out what you have to do to be good they dont want to do it. Blood, sweat, tears, thats what training is to me, not some damn belt. Sparring in my MT class is optional because when it was standard someone would complain. Can you believe that! Dont take the fucking class then!

Fighty, if you read carefully (maybe it's my lack of translating skills that's at fault) the author seems to hold hapkido in very high regard - he is genuinly outraged that they took such an art and turned it into a "martial art for the elderly".

I know he's exaggerating a bit, but you have to understand that here, in the US, people are used to McDojos. There, it's something new and, to the veterans, mind boggling.

A MT class with OPTIONAL sparring. ****. Next thing you know, we'll see boxing with optional sparring... amazing...

And I don't blame your instructor - he has to make a living somehow. I'm just amazed at the sheer obsurdity of the situation...

Sorry, I should have explained it more with how I ment it. I saw people who wanted to half ass spar and would freak out when someone touched their face. They took MT thinking it was cardio kickboxing, they are not the same thing. We have that class also, they should have taken that instead. My instructor was almost sued a couple times when students would get hit in the face because they didnt block. Sparring wasnt manditory, people were never made to do it. They made the choice to put the gloves on my teacher never forced them. People complained about what happened between them and their sparring partner. They blamed the art and the teacher, not the person who actually hit them. They found out that a glove in the face is not fun. People think they know what fighting is but when they spar or get hurt fighting they get offended. They wanted to learn to fight without doing any actual fighting, go figure. I hope I made my post clearer, for the record I dont have anything against people who dont spar. I just think its very beneficial to supplement MA through sparring, especially MT as the way its always been done.

Great article, don't forget to submit it to the site as an article so it doesn't get lost when people run out of things to say in this thread.

Since it is a translation and not technically your words, you should also include some info on who actually wrote it and where it came from.

Blade: I noticed that nobody reads these articles, and I spent entierly too much time translating this thing for it to go unread.

    ?
I read the article. Submit it anyways. It will "last" longer than just disappearing into the old threads and all.

    Only two?

I thnk there's a hell of a lot more than that.

I'm still trying to track down the author of this thing.

When I do that, I will submit it.
