Sanitized competition? Tell that to Leavander Johnson or Kevin Payne.
You can't make people smarter. You can expose them to information, but your responsibility stops there.

Competion and Sport to hone abilities? Actually using your techniques on living people?

My God man.... you're all savages!

    What can you expect
    From filthy little heathens?
Their whole disgusting race is like a curse
    Their skin's a hellish red
    They're only good when dead
    They're vermin, as I said
    And worse
    They're savages! Savages!
    Barely even human

What do you guys think of the "mentality" argument that jfs used to bring up? Do you guys agree with it? Do you think that a guy with bad intentions has an advantage over a sport fighter who's not used to trying kill every guy he's up against?

I personally don't think so unless the "s7r337 f1gh73r" has a serious size and strength advantage or is amped up on amphetamines or some other stimulant. And even then, I think that a well rounded sport fighter has a reasonable chance of coming out on top.

Totally. I imagine that the origin of athletics generally was to try to find safe(r) ways for the warriors of the tribe to test their skills and see who was the Big Dog without too much spilled blood.

I have a buddy who does Stav. I cannot imagine real vikings wasting their time with that **** at all. My friend feels it cultivates a'warrior mindset'. I know that real Vikings wrestled constantly, and probably sparred hard with blunt weapons too, and almost certainly would have been bored senseless by forms practice.
