But there's a reason I used the word slap and not palm strike.

And what I see most often from arts like some silats, kempo, and matrix, and now arakan, are slaps.

Which is a slap that at most might have a slight dropping of weight to give it a little oomph, but mostly they're arm strikes.

Not properly loaded palm strikes either taught as jabs and crosses, or swinging strikes similar to those used in pigua.

But since a lot of these folks don't spar, they don't know you're not going to stop anybody determined with a hit like that.

I can't find it, but Rodney King of Crazy Monkey Defense fame used to have an instructional of how to hit with the palm in a way that made sense.

The Rodney King video I have is only about how "the fastest way to knock someone out is an open-hand slap to the back of the head." He talks about working an angle and some minor clinch stuff to get the head down so you can slap it, if I remember correctly. Been a while since I last watched it.

That's not the one.

This one was just a simple video about body mechanics and rotation to produce power.

This weekend is out, picked up a few injuries from my Muay Thai fight. It wouldn't be fair to do a review of the class if i'm physically unable to do their training, bullshido or not. To show i'm not a dirty liar fight footage will be available in a couple of weeks once the promoter has sent out the dvd.
