That's odd. I mean, _ing _un has NO BLOCKS. So what are you doing if you are waiting for them to throw a punch? Trying to prove that you can suck up a hit before you launch your attack? It is not easier to deal with an attacker when he's throwing a punch... IT IS EASIER TO DEAL WITH AN ATTACKER WHEN YOU ARE PUNCHING HIM.

You can have good punches without needing trapping at all. You cannot make any use of trapping, however, without good, solid, ass-kicking punches. Hell, we don't even start chi sau until after a minimum of about a year of solid training (and often much longer).

You see, this is the perfect example of the wing chun philosophical crap that makes us look stupid.

I HATE when people say WC has no blocks.
Good blocks should hurt the person throwing the punches/kicks...but they are blocks...and WC has them. -

Please, allow me to give an appropriate _ing _un answer.
What is really a block? What is really a punch? A good fighter generally knows there is very blurry distinction between the two as one flows into another. That is a general principle of WC since it is a fluid and adaptable style.
At least that is what works at my school when we spar hard. You should come see for yourself instead of criticizing. -

I have no idea what exactly "my style" was designed for (and I'm not about to get into the crazy speculation about the origins of WC)...but we do train drills w/ multiple people throwing punches. It's very good for training reactions, fight awareness, and just generally keeping your hands up.

The principles of WC are independent from the specific hands/blocks.
