Power From a JF stance?

How would one be able to generate the most power from a Jun fan stance? Its basically a side stance with the dominant side foward. I know you can throw some nasty side kicks from here but what about round houses?
Is it at all possible to throw a decent kick[roundhouse] with the lead lead?

Has anyone done this type of thing before? Are the twist mechanics the same as that of a orthodox stance?

I would guess the most power would still come from the rear side, it just wouldn't be as powerful as a conventional stance rear side technique. Reason being that even though the rear side is not the "power hand/leg" in a jun fan stance it still has the most body twist/pivot/slamming the door whatever you call it.

On a side note Mark Hatmaker advocates the power side forward in his book NHB Striking. He says that the lack of gloves or the small ones used make it advantageous to have the power hand forward, since it makes the power hand quicker. According to him with the lack of pillows on your hands in NHB the extra power from rear side power hand is not as necessary as the speed gained by power side forward. In boxing he said the large gloves require more power for knockouts and so power side back is neccessary to gain the extra power.

Bruce Lee's reasoning was that the front hand and leg are the weapons most frequently used in a fight, so they should be the power side.

Hatmaker tells you to have your upper body mostly square and fairly wide stance with your feet turned slightly in. Therefore a lead strike from that stance (advocated widely in MMA) is going to be pretty powerful on its own.

Bas Rutten has made many comments on the matter, saying that against a grappler they'll eat a jab to score a takedown, but will have to block a heavy lead hand shot. He also made a point that if you're doing straight striking that you should face more sideways and use the lead hand as more of a set up for bigger punches since you don't have to worry as much about takedowns.

My guess from my readings on Lee is that he was still thinking about fighting as primarily based in striking, and therefore advocated a somewhat modified boxing stance. I really don't have an answer to the original question, but I thought it was important to note how Hatmaker's and Lee's stances are out of different mindsets.

A jun fan stance is just a modified boxing stance. Really similar but if you want you can push off with the rear foot and drive forward for a better jab. So, yeah...just twist the body and use the foot.

I'm right handed, but my left jab is quicker and lands with more authority off of the lead, than my right jab can if I switch to southpaw. So why the hell should I go "power" side forward, when my left jab is faster and hits harder than my right? Also take into account that my right cross is far more powerful than my left cross.

It all depends on what works for you.

Well maybe the power side forward jab is weaker because it has spent less time jabbing and more time crossing.\??? Or maybe your right and its best to keep power side back where it can generate the most power. Just what I read in the Hatmaker NHB striking book. Personally I'm going to stick to a regular lead because its what I've been working on, eventually I'll start training both.

It all depends on what works for you.

Your left hook and jab are faster and more powerful than you right because you trained it to be that way. If you trained in a right lead mostly the opposite would be true. It's your thing...do what you want to do.
