    How to deal..

I've been taking shorin ryu lessons at the local YMCA and over all the class is really good or so I think and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. My only problem is my sensi has bought into the chi thing a little bit too much and trys to explain some things as a "mystical" focus of chi ; such as moving objects, etc. Being and engineer I believe this is more of a physic's application but to each his own I guess.

I worry though that later on it may hamper my development with the class if I don't buy into the chi thing. Should I just take it with a grain of salt and get what I can out of the class or any other suggetions ?

    Thanks

    Kall.

Just leave. You obviously know more about physics than him and in the long run it will only create tension. i.e. "When I punch him, I actually project my chi behind him and it pulls him."

The sooner you find a teacher who isn't crazy, the better.

Sounds like the guy is full of crap.

    Where are you located?

Is this dude your only option for MA?
People often tell me that I fail to see the gravity of the situation.
I see the gravity, and I say...

Step right up folks and watch me defy gravity!

Over all the class and the instruction is good. the other night was the first night he really sorta got into it though. I've looked at quite a few of the dojos in the yellowpages but most of them were far worse than this.

Kick him in the nads and go "Where you Chi now bitch?"

Honestly, it depends how he describes it. Chi or Ki bascially breath. If you breath your muscles work better, thats it. If he talking about chi blasting people and knocking **** over, then have him do it to you. If he can't (he can't) just leave and find a real dojo.

HA!! I love the stereotypical chinaman verbage "where you chi now bitch!!!"

How many classes have you been to? Have the last 19 been pretty cool with no "chi blasting" and he mentioned "harnessing your chi, grasshopper" this one time? if so give it a few more but watch his focus, if your instructor starts asking people to stay after class to learn martial telekinesis don't let the door hit ya were the lord split ya.

I think that was a typo, but it still sounds better when you say it that way.

Ask the other people if he does this a lot. If it's something totally new to them, it might just be a phase he's going through, or a sign that he wans to go in that direction.
