I like how that article called it a "martial arts mill", making it akin to a puppy mill, which are just plain despicable.

Also, Mr Nono is awesome. I wish I had him as a teacher when I was a kid.

Does anyone have pro membership at MMA.tv? I don't, but would appreciate a search on this stuff over there. Some quotables from Renzo or Royce himself would go a long way toward setting the record straight. (Also since I don't post there, I'm hesitant to register just to ask these questions.)

Cause I train at his academy on the daily. I've trained with Renzo too.

actually not really, 12 year old have a high healling capacity...

My karate/judo teacher was about the same when I was young (11 to 13 year old) he use to walk around with a stick and hit us if we striked left instead of right or stuf like that.

In judo when one of us would do a goofy thing or not traning hard enough he would make every one line up and come at him and would clean the mat with each of us.

it's MA not day care...

I've seen the pissed off Instructor/Master/Sensei/etc. when a student didn't show proper manners, ettiquette, or what have you, but hugging? WTF?

I have this vision of an Ogre growling "HUG ME!!!" at a room full of frightened children. Maybe this is not the best idea when some 5 year olds have poor bladder control under the best of circumstances. (I have seen assistant intstructors mopping up "accidents" in classes before)

Otherwise, the school looks pretty damned cool, if not as interesting as the Full Contact Karate
