Royce training HKD? Renzo lost a "streetfight"???

Okiedokie... So I'm arguing the old street v sport thing on another site. And this guy made the following claims...

    1. Royce in training Hapkido to improve his stand-up.

    2. At Pride Bushido 3, Renzo appeared with an injured knee. In an interview (supposedly contained on the DVD) he claimed he was in a streetfight and hurt his knee when he slammed it on the concrete (that's right, folks) while shooting for a takedown.

Naturally, the guy was unable to provide verification. He did cite the DVD the interview appeared on, but no one else on the site has seen or owns the DVD to verify. He also claimed the the Royce HKD thing appeared in BB mag. WHen I informed him that a search of their website revealed nothing, he claimed it was in some sidebar piece (an ad???). Eitherway, no one else could verify.

What I'd like is for someone who might know to help me debunk this bullshido.

I doubt that Royce trains Hapkido for his stand up... but he briefly talks about his cross training in this interview.

    Oh my goodness.

    I don't belive I'm hearing this. I really don't.

Lets hear the "MMA, Muay Thai & BJJ is all you need" guys explain this one away.

A MMA allstar is now training in Hapkido ? Now Hapkido will be the trendy thing.

Did you miss the part where no one can find proof of this?

I had heard the Hapkido one before. I never looked for any proof, considering I heard that he was cross training in HKD for his fight with Sakuraba, and considering the stand up stomping he took, I figured either he didn't train long enough, or didn't train his stand up as effectively as he should have.

Plus he broke his foot in like round 2, so it's tough to really gauge his HKD skills' effectiveness for the final four rounds of that fight (holy crap the fight really was 90 minutes wasn't it?).

If he had won that fight or had a better showing in the standup portion, then I'm sure there would have been a lot more interest in what type of cross training and what styles he was doing.

Dammit, I don't remember where, but I had read that one of the Gracie's cousins (not the Machados) was a TKD teacher. I even remember ads in MA rags. I had heard that Royce x-trained with this guy for his standup. I seem to remember him doing awful high kicks against Sak, too. I didn't get why the BJJ MAN would take TKD and try to use it.

    1) no. There is bit of a difference between possibly working out with a HKD once or twice and putting on the gi and practicing the flying wristlock.

    2) yes. He broke his kneecap on the cement. that doesn't mean he lost the fight though. He got injured. Im betting the other dude got his **** wrecked.

Renzo did bust his knee in a street fight, he still took the guy down and made him his bitch. Heard it from the horses mouth. Well sorta, Matt Serra told me about it.

I believed that Royce Gracie trained with Nono who owns the Nono's One on One Hapkido in 131 Pier Ave Hermosa Beach Perhaps one of could call Main Phone: 310-372-4253 and see if Royce Gracie still trains at that school. I also believed that the school also host Gracies Jujitsu lessons at the same location.

    Hope this helps
