but you have to admit that it is just a bit more alive than the rest of the teachings, he has the right idea but It would never really work since it is 100% alive on one side and about 25% alive from the attacker, did impress me though because I remember Ninjutsu being much worse, don't worry I am not one of these "believe in dead drills secret power" techniques

Still looked better than Aikido :tellme:

I can't help but wonder where he would've stuck his hand if he was caught between the guys legs in a triangle choke. Ouch.

    Yeah that looks familiar.

Very similar to what my Bujinkan training was like. Which we all know is the systems biggest problem. No sparring. No sparring at all.

Your attacker comes in with a pre determined attack like a lunge punch or lunge kick and then just stands there and lets you put the technique on.

Now those sorts of drills are fine just to begin with. When your drilling the technique and trying to get the hang of it. But there must be a time where you put it into practice in sparring. Where no one is co operating with you.

I argued this point over and over with my previous Bujinkan training partners. Yet they still did not see the importance of alive training. Frankly, this is why I left the system.

It was Jack Hoban. What sucks is that In the Bujinkan Kata there is at least one (Not including variations) for that attack and it is simple. It is similar to one I leaned in BJJ. In the Bujinkan it is from Gyokko Ryu and called Ketsu Myaku. Block the arm as they reach arm around, extend arm out and Drop knee SeiO. In BJK it is usually done with prying the arm off using body weight for leverage and breaking it before the drop knee. If people trained basics to the point of knowing the waza and then drilled and sparred them... But hey preaching to the choir.

I once trained with a bujinkan instructor that refused to teach chokes untill 3rd dan. I guess they are too deadly for a 9th kyu.
