that's about the most retarded looking headgear ever. A step up from face cages I guess.

LOL, you're right. That's gayer than a motor cycle helmet, because it looks like a foam motorcycle helmet.

Dude, you may as well just buy a pumpkin, cut some holes in it and use it like a helmet!

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

This one is good for sparring and taking med-heavy shots.

    Question...

What is the purpose of such heavy duty headgear? This is not for everday sparring I assume right? You gain nothing by using something super heavy duty for sparring and actually make it worse for your training.

    Red Elvis:

Thanks for posting that link. That website has some good gear that had never considered before. To answer your questions, normal sparring can only go so far especially with normal gear. I've been looking at gear that would allow more realism. Sorta like having a Red Man suit..just without spending $1200.

So far we've been having a guy named Jerry (about 6.3" 310 pounds) come in a don 2 chest protectors, a vinyl head gear with face mask, boxing gloves, and small shin guards for the inside of his arms. We call him 'it' or 'tank'. His goal is to mercilessly beat who ever gets in front of him. His victim gets a head-gear, mouth piece, a forearm pads, hand pads. The current head gear we have stops his face from getting hit, but it also jolts his head hard when ever it gets bumped.
I'm looking for something we could put on him, and hammer away at...Anyway..the 'fight' goes on til those watching decide that one has dominated the other. The victim has to use their 'skillz' to not get the **** knocked out of them.

    It's alot of fun!:wcacjack

    Thanks for all your suggestions.

Try not binding him up like a teddy bear so he can acutally fight and get more then one villian so he doesn't have to fight the whole class. I'd rather have both or either of those advantages then another piece of padding.

A regular boxing headgear should be fine for the head. You want him to feel a little jolt, so he doesn't fight unrealistically - you don't want training predicated on thrashing around with a guy that never reacts, and you don't want your villain acting hurt when he's not - both breed bad habits.
There's no choice but to confront you, to engage you, to erase you. I've gone to great lengths to expand my threshold of pain. I will use my mistakes against you. There's no other choice.
