so many people site daito ryu as the 'parent art' of aikido. It is indeed A parent art of aikido, yet not one that Ueshiba actually studied for very long. In short, people talk out their arse.

I trained Yoshinkai under one of Shioda students. I also did a wee bit of Aikikai. Compared to Aikikai Yoshinkai is like full contact MMA.

Compared to any other alive MA Yoshinkai still sucks in it's training methods."

The whole "it takes a long time to learn" thing is BULLSHIT! They trained to be effective as quickly as possible because during that time period being labelled a MArtist left you open for challenge, attack, or called into battle depending on your situation. Yes time was put in to training but not really the hours and hours a day as you mentioned because there were other things that needed attending. So NO it didn't take a long time to learn that just something being told now to keep you around. They trained more effectively then what they call training today.

Besides, getting thrown teaches you a lot.
Just doing the move isn't enough, since you also need to learn how to defend against it or, failing that, how to land without snapping your spine.

I'm not sure what this dojo had in mind when they came up with this slogan. Are they saying self sacrifice is a martial art or that their aikido is so worthless you might as well sacrifice yourself than try to use it? (Yes, I realize they are marketing themselves to church folk, but that flyer is still pretty cheesy).
