The whole "it takes a long time to learn" thing is BULLSHIT! They trained to be effective as quickly as possible because during that time period being labelled a MArtist left you open for challenge, attack, or called into battle depending on your situation. Yes time was put in to training but not really the hours and hours a day as you mentioned because there were other things that needed attending. So NO it didn't take a long time to learn that just something being told now to keep you around. They trained more effectively then what they call training today.
