*sigh* research and looking

okay, i've done several things. i'm a stand-up fighter for the most part. its what i like and enjoy. yes, i need to learn grappling, but i'm saving that for later. things i've studied: TKD, Korean Karate, bits and pieces of JKD, bits and pieces of various weaponry.

things to realize: yes, currently i'm a new SD student (the same school TaeboMaster and them went to spar). yes, i know the Do on the end is ridiculous. yes, the people are extremely varied in their skill level, from really terrible to pretty fantastic. please don't bring any of that up.

the question: i'm looking for something that trains strong and for purposeful application in (mostly) stand-up combat. i live in north austin. i'm looking for fast, strong movements. i'm a small guy, about 5'7", 150-160 depending on what i've eaten that week. i'm very quick, and when i train hard fairly strong (i've been out of the loop awile during college/moving/job search/etc.). any ideas will help. styles, locations, etc. i've been looking around for something on these boards, but haven't been able to find anything.

please don't start an SD flame war, i don't really care, i've read plenty. i am looking for a strong school, a strong teacher, and most importantly strong instruction where moves count and you don't move up until you actually have it right and can perform up to par with where you need to be.

if you want to fight standing up I think Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is your best option.

if you know of/find a school that seems good, let me know. i haven't explored kajukenbo myself so i'm not quite sure what i should be looking for. :P

If you're only 150lbs, a throwing art such as Judo is actually your best bet for SD.

But, if you're really that homophobic, then try Muay Thai.

I thought the SD was for Shaolin Do?

thanks for the suggestions so far everyone.

as an added note: i'm not looking for anything watered-down. i'm looking for difficult. i'm all for strong contact sparring, workouts that will kick me in the nuts when they need to, and all that fun stuff. :eusa_ange

Well man, in Austin you have Vandry BJJ up north, several kali and silat schools, there are quite a few judo places. I know there are some Muay Thai gyms. It really comes down to what you want. If TMA is your thing there is a Hung Gar school in the 183 and Lamar area. You have some options if SD isn't all you thought it might be.
