I wish I'd gotten here earlier so I could say more than "ditto" to the posts above. Richardson is pretty much what JKD should be. Open-minded MMA with an eye toward testing your training with live opponents. I'm biased, of course, but there you go.

And to parrot the above posters again, videos are supplemental at best. I have no idea of the quality of Burton's videos, but they're still videos.

Let me start by saying JKD is a myth.
It was Bruce's unattained goal, and IMO too many people live off of BLee.
That said, Burton Richardson is the real deal.
Like so many other Inosanto jkders, he does involve kali/escrima in his version of JKD Unlimited. Unlike most of them, he actually went and found masters to train under, and lived with them to do so, until they deemed him proficient.

I have been to Burton's classes, and he has a way of incorporating techniques that actually allows the students to figure out what's working for them, or not, and to flow/evolve to another technique on the fly. (That aspect of his instruction I liked)

His students seem very demanding of themselves, pften arriving at least a half hour early to warm up, and practice individual things before the instructors get there.

They do drills. They spar. They spend an equal time in each range, and their groundwork is very practical. A very good learning environment.

Burton Richardson is also very easy to talk to. I am sure if you call the number on the website, and left your info and reason for calling, he would answer any question you had.

I've never been one for video instruction, and have not seen his.
But, from watching his classes, and speaking with him I can't see them failing to teach.
See if there's a money back guarantee, if you're not sure. . .

btw - didn't he used to post on here? anyone know? ahh, maybe not. . .I'm old-meh!

The JKD instructor where I currently train has done seminars with Burton and uses his video learning program. It seems pretty decent as far as those things go. The training does cover all ranges of combat, and resistance training is encouraged.

I don't think anyone was arguing those points.

What most JKD people are doing is some form of MMA. I'm guilty of using it in place of a style name frequently because it's a shortcut to a longer explanation. I guess most of us should bight the bullet and call it MMA, but you know how we people are, we need our labels. :5dunce:

I've visited his Web site and looked at some of the techniques he shows and I thought they were pretty solid, except for a knife defense I didn't care much for. Alot of the stuff I saw looked like MMA modified for "t3h str33t" which is cool with me. The guy looks legit to me.

In case anyone thinks there's a question as to his attitudes toward hardore training. . .
Burton Richardson is also a Dog Brother, and a Rigan Machado student!

I'm training under a guy who was taught by Burton Richardson. He's legit.
