BJJ Home Course?
Have you all seen this yet? Seems kind of strange, I don't have beef with home courses, just get a little antsy when they come with captions like this:
Looks like something with the Lloyd Irvin name on it, but I dunno too much about these guys, just seems kinda fishy.
HOW TO GET YOUR BLACK BELT IN BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU IN 3 ½ YEARS, A JUDO BLACK BELT IN 1 YEAR AND A BLACK BELT IN COMBAT SOMBO IN 1 YEAR JUST LIKE LLOYD
If it offers a black belt in 1 year there's no way it's legitimate.
Dalla is Lloyd's BJJ instructor. He was the one who gave Lloyd his blackbelt. Dalla is legit
Doesn't Rhadi Ferguson post here sometimes?
Maybe Lloyd is legitimate. That doesn't mean the product necessarily is. Nothing on this earth (so far) makes someone qualified for a blackbelt in Combat Sambo and Judo in one year.
A lot of people have issues with this, but you have to understand what it is, and what it isn't.
The Grappling Blueprint is not a BJJ home study course, it is a sport psychology and motivation course. It's not about techniques at all.
I'm not into Lloyd Irvin at all, and I think his marketing is way over the top and drives into McDojosville visiting the souvenir shop on the way. However, he is legit and his grappling blueprint is not saying "Read this, and I will give you a Black Belt in three and a half years,".
It is saying: "Read this, follow the advice and train hard - and you might get a black belt from your own association in three and a half years."
Marketing gimmick that in no way reflects Irvin's skill & legitimacy or his students. He is the real deal.
And I would disagree about the Judo black belt. There is no reason at all why someone should not go from total newb white belt to a 1st Dan in judo in one year. The reason people do not do this is because Judo is almost never taught in an environment where this is possible. Very few Judo schools offer daily classes and few associations have sufficient opportunity for grading to achieve this.
Also, let us not forget that the Judo concept of a 1st Dan is very different from what most martial arts understand a 1st Dan to be. 1st Dan does not imply any degree of mastery - only technical competence. In this way the judo 1st Dan is (ironically) something akin to a BJJ blue belt in what it represents.
Lloyd is 100% legit as a coach and athlete. The Grappling Blueprint has yet to be released. BC is correct in that it is about sport psychology.
I disagree ... yes it IS a reflection on them .
