    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    First non-Gracie

What was the first non-Gracie BJJ school in Brazil? How did that development come about?

I'd say it's fairly easy to go back through their lineage (one thing I really respect about BJJ), do a bit of digging on BJJ.org.

There was something I read a while back about Maeda teaching Luiz Franca Filho directly, even though bjj.org listed him (retrospectively?) as being a student of Carlos Sr.

Hell, if Luiz Franca taught Oswaldo Fadda (9th black) who is deceased - I can believe that.

I'm not sure if he's the first, but Francisco Mansor is one of the first:

    Kioto BJJ.
