    Re: Heel hooks

I need some tips on how to transition from an ankle lock that isn't working to a heel hook. I have found some difficulty in trying to get the foot out and repositioned well. Either the person is just taking the pain or they have manipulated their foot positioning some how so that I am slightly too deep. Is transitioning from ankle lock to heel hook even a good/plausible idea? I'd ask the instructor but I don't see him till next Tuesday and I'd like to hear what you all think.

Yes. It's not very far to move your arm down to the heel. Practice it.

Sigh, fine. Was hoping there might be more to it than that or maybe that I was missing something crucial but ok. Do find its easier to do it with the heel on the inside or the outside?

Outside. To switch to the inside, you have to change your foot positioning as well.

why bother with ankle locks; heel hooks are the only submission you need.

No, chokes are the only submission you need.

Besides that, if the foot is inside and you're going for a heel hook...what do you mean by that?
