Since you're in KC, Glitch, it might be useful to suggest those senior students try their hand at MMA competition. There are events almost every month nowadays out here, and my instructor could set them up easily.

[QUOTE=What I want to know is, what is everyone's beef with Wing Chun.[/QUOTE]
A couple of reasons not yet mentioned (at least in this thread)
1) Chunners cannot stop talking about the centerline concept like it is revolutionary in the world of martial arts
2) Chi sau is not the end all of training methods
3) Chunners cannot stop making posts about _ing _un.

Don't start crappy threads and you won't get flamed. Simple, isn't it?
Now go read the FAQ's/stickies. Pay particular attention to the part that says to do a search on your topic before starting a new thread. Allow me to assist you.
There were many more, but I'm tired now.
The staff prefers it if you resurrect an old thread rather than starting a new one on the same subject. Now zark off.
Shut the hell up and train.

Thats not really true, but I really think this is what ends up leading to some of the lineage wars or "your _ing _un sucks" things out there. I've seen lots of video out there showing chain punching that simply doesn't work. A good 2 or 3 chain punches (without torque, and using only your arm rooted in your stance) is better than tossing out 50 little surface punches that are fast but not penetrating.
A "good" chain punch is *NOT* a surface punch, by definition though. Lee's "1-inch punch" is based on the _ing _un chain punch (or verticle punch, really, as he didn't "chain" it). A chain punch is supposed to be a "pushing" punch, however. Bruce Lee just made it look cooler.
And why people here hate it? I get the feeling there are simply lots of places out there that suck at it, and don't train it well enough to be effective. And I figure that those places probably outweigh the good ones. :seppuku:

The problem is every _ing _un person to come onto this board claims that there are simply a large amount of schools that train _ing _un badly.
If that's the case then why not direct us to the good schools and fighters? Is your school one of the few that trains "good?"

God damn it!!! God damn it!!! God damn it!!! Threads like this makes me wonder. I'm doing escrima right now, and the school where I go to also teaches Wing Chun. So far the escrima class has not been bullshit, so I would assume the WC would not be BS either. For a sweet $90 I can take the escrima and WC classes, it's convenient with my work schedule, and pretty much that's what I can afford right now...

****, threads like this make me wonder if I'm going to end up wasting my time :seppuku:

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris
