I remember that program and the fat guy was a Goju Ryu student who did get a beating from his teacher. Okinawan Karate is sometimes referred to as Kichigai Karate or Insane Karate as the training seems to go WAY beyond what most dilletantes would even attempt.

It weeds out the wussbags very early when you start to kick each other in the thighs with shin kicks.

Bald little churlish Japanese, yes. It was brutal, he hit the poor fat bleached blonde bastard in the gut and he curled up like a shrimp. Ladies in the background were laughing at him as he rolled around on the ground hacking up his own anus.

It didn't look like any sort of conditioning, it looked like pain for pain's sake. The guy he was doing it to obviosly had some sort of self esteem problem - he looked like a snowman with a gland problem in his gi. Obviously those years of body hardening hadn't done him any good.

Seriously though Sanchin is one of the best Kata's I have found so far for conditioning.

In addition, I've found that the shin kicks to the thigh have started to feel... "good" these days. Even when it fshould be "holy **** I'm going to fall down" it's still "Thank you Sir! May I have another!" MMMM... kote gitae, its like mothers horribly painful and mentally scarring milk.
