As a matter of fact, I do. These should probably be posted in true lies, but whatever.
1. Crescent kicks always work as disarms.
2. You could offer to buy the knife from him, using whatever money happens to be in your wallet.
3. Use your Chi to melt the hand in which he is holding the knife.

Use a low angle crescent kick.

The proper technique is to use it in this situation.Since you are most likely gonna be attacked on the street.You kick the knife out of the attackers hand by turning your shoe and use the thick rubber sole to hit the hand of the attacker.You're not aiming for the knife.Your target is the hand.

**I have never had to use this technique nor do I know anyone outside of films to have succesfully used it.But it's the best technique to use while keeping a safe distance from your assailant.The only other techniques are what's usually taught in Aikido or Jujitsu.

Believe it or not I was knife sparring with a Shodan at my dojo and I brought the knife low to thrust at his stomach and he did a shin kick to my hand. It sent the knife flying across the dojo. I was like "oh ****."

Can you kick a knife out of a hand. If the opporunity presents its I yes, but it not the "best" defense.

It just seems like many people would react to a kick by swing the knife at your leg, which wouldnt be so pretty.

hmm TKD versus a .38..okay, TKD remains a stylistic construct existing in training halls the world over, and the .38 remains an inanimate object. Ruled no contest after infinity rounds.

I trained in TKD for just over six years, and for what it is worth, I had a decent instructor. Although we did work on knife & pistol disarming techniques, the moves had a limited use. First of all, the gun has to be within the 'A' range (w/i 24" front or 6" rear). Next, the timing has to be precise, and the movement sure. Most importantly, you have to be able to judge if the first two requirements have been met.
In a stressful situation, I really don't see any sure-fire way to defend against a pistol. You might get lucky, though.
Any legitimate instructor will tell you the best defense, is to not put yourself in a questionable position in the first place. If you do find yourself there, these are only 'last-resort' moves.
I really enjoyed the knife training; we used chalked knives and all black clothing. This way, you could clearly see where the knife would have made contact. There was no guage for the pistol-arts, though.
