ďThe time youíre spending training that grappling garbage is time that would be better spent perfecting your (Aikido/Wing Chun/TKD, etc.). If your (Aikido/Wing Chun/TKD, etc.) was good enough you wouldnít need any of that BJJ **** because you wouldnít/couldnít be taken down.Ē

If you talk about "self defense", your Judo instructor is right - especially when you consider most people don't floss even though flossing provides an effective "self defense" from the #1 killer: heart disease.
you are mostly correct. From that line of logic there is no need to learn anything but how to shoot. However it takes longer than 5 mins to learn to do it well and under stress. It is also inpractical to carry a gun due to the social/legal ramifications it may cause.

A gun wonít do you any good if you donít have it on you, donít have the time or the distance necessary to employ it, or donít have the will to pull the trigger when the time comes. Also not every threat or perceived threat justifies the use of deadly force.

kenpo: Ed Parker was a martial arts genius!
Kenpo: Kenpo is a complete martial art
Kenpo: with proper training women will hit harder than men because they don't "muscle" it
Kenpo: Kenpo is based on principles of motion so there is no need to cross-train
Sambo: If a wrestler sprawled on me I'd throw him head over heels
Asiaphiles: MA's aren't really about fighting
