    Hell yeah! Hell no!
I've never trained with Jack (also never heard that Ed Martin and Phil Lagare were in a "crew"), but I've only heard very straight-forward and level headed commentary from him, and I hear he has a lot to offer. I don't see anything wrong with checking it out and seeing what you can get from him.

From the remarks about sparring from some of these shihan (often referred to as staunch opponents to the practice), they usually seem primarily concerned over students developing an unhealthy competitive attitude, and cultivating concerns with "beating" an opponent over "not losing." If you actually see many of the same people get going on the subject, you can see they can appreciate the value of randori and various free-response exercises in developing creativity, timing, and getting students "out of their heads" under pressure.

This was posted by Dale Seago about Jack Hoban.
What does that have to do with Virus's question?

Our favorite Ninjers at the Bujinkan tackle groundfighting yet again.
There are a lot of delusionals out there. I have to wonder if Grimlock would give up and roll over when the guy he caught trying to kidnap his kids starts gouging him from a pin or choke. But there is no "official" Bujinkan line that encourages this kind of thinking.

And really, I respect you and all for your efforts and attending throwdowns (more than I've done ), but why the flurry of riding the Buj lately? Why is it that despite your wonderful experience with the Genbukan, 95% of the people I (and the ex-Genbukan people I know) have met from the organization are elitist assholes who move so stiffly it looks like they've taken one too many shito ken up the ass from Tanemura? Every clip I've found makes me bust a gut laughing, short of those with Tanemura himself who has great movement, and from what I hear is a very generous, good spirited man (despite the thing about having a vision telling him to restart Hakuun ryu... can you explain that at all?)

http://www.geocities.com/genbukanzen...nsho2_300k.asf (sorry, I just can't find any sparring videos to comment on. Must be pretty shitty org, huh?)
http://www.ninpo.org/picturearchive/...t/MOV00100.MPG (truly a spectacle of high resistance training)

I mean, to hear it from you these guys are so bad ass they must wear hand grenades for underwear.

I'll give you this, the Genbukan has much more consistent appearing technique. Apparently everyone stands and moves the same regardless of body type, and constantly mimic these kiai (probably just to breath of course, and has nothing to do with those "mind waves" we apparently obsess over).

Obviously we could trade shots with embaressingly sucky examples of respective x-kans. Or we could accept that there's a lot of work to be done in both camps  Not usually this rude, but hey, that's what this section of the forum is for :XXbazooka

I recently watched Dengue Fever, an On The Mat video.

While it was for the most part, really, really boring, there was a cool clip of a ninjer grappling...

Thought I'd add something useful to the discussion.

    What a load of ****.

Whatever happened to Dave Koss? I once saw his Paladin training tape and the stuff he did looked realistic. He kept saying things like "it doesn't matter if your school says we don't train a technique because it doesn't work, some people can make it work for them you have to deal with what is given you"

What is funny is I talked to another ex-genbukan a few months back and he said he left becuase the Genbukan was becoming like the Bujinkan. I didn't believe him. But watching that I am glad I am gone.

If the Uke was actually trying to hit him, that would of been ok.

That Tanemura's Ko Ryu Karate. I left before he started that. I have no idea what he does with it.

My Mac would't support his clip.

If I didn't know better I thought I was watching Bujinkan. This clip makes me cry.

Take my Bujinkan Bashing with a Grain of salt. The Vast majority of the Dojos, basically any of the dojos under Hoban, Lagare, Martin and Seago are regilously anti-sparring and are some the worse example of Ninjutsu/Taijutsu. I live in "Lagare-town" , all the dojos here are are under Phil Lagare. They barely make contact, and never spar.

However, you just showed me what I been hearing for a while, that the genbukan is starting down the same road. This makes me sad, but I don't trained with the Genbukan anymore. Therefore, it doesn't affect my training.

Not really. I wouldn't know. Believe it or not, Tanemura doesn't call me up with his "visions".

Anyway, every Ryu got to start somewhere.

I don't remember exactly what product it was, but I heard that there was some kind of chemical that burned slow, and that if you covered your hand with it and set it on fire, it would take a while for the fire to burn down to your skin.
I never tested this out and do not know if it is true.

Tanks for the heads-up, guys. You just saved me $40. What's the Bujinkan's stance on accepting challenge matches?

**** yes. Duel to the Death is an awesome kung fu/ninja movie with awesome fighting. Guys flying out of the ground, stabbing at you from trees. Its sweet. The Samurai fighter can also double jump, like from old Metroid.

They won't....period. Very anti sparring, very anti testing skill. They will just tell you they are too deadly for that.
