I'm with you on points 2 and pretty much on point 3 as well, but I actually like it for the gi. I definitely prefer MMA, but still.
I like doing grappling with gi once in a while, since it opens for some additional techniques, so I might do some SJJ some time, just for the experience of doing MMA with gi.

As for the timelimit, I prefer people actively going for submissions. However, the time limit just as often results in people just holding position long enough to be stood back up. Awarding points for submission attempts might be a better solution.

No, it stands for World Kobudo Federation and their new website is still under construction but can be seen here http://www.worldkobudo.info/ it is kind of an umbrella group for a bunch of different martial arts

GoJu, I'm looking for SJJ in or around NY.
Also, I agree the Enshin/Kyokushin gi is pimp.

    I like the gi.

My biggest annoyance regarding SJJ is :

#1 the striking (semi kontakt is always shaky imho)

#2 pinning (more submission plz!, less I HOLD YOU DOWN SO NATURALLY YOU GIVE UP)

#3 Timelimits. (a LITTLE more time for submission please)

    Otherwise I find it entertaining.
More human than human is our motto.

Yeah striking seems to be the biggest issue, it's so subjective as to what is hard striking and what isn't. Lot's of different ideas around from the no striking to the head but hard striking to the body. I believe in the last competition for that video it was moderate striking to the head and only body strikes on the grounds, but the ground strikes were allowed to be hard. To me that's the biggest problem with SJJ but I have no idea as to the solution.

The time limit on the ground was increased from 15 seconds to 30 seconds. I am split on this, on one hand the short time period leads to more action to score points or a submission and less just lying down, on the other hand it doesn't give a lot of time for a rerally good ground game. I think it should be 1 minute on the ground before the fighters are stood up.

I don't really know of any SJJ outside of Ontario Canada, but I am not an expert.

We are lucky here in that one of the guys who founded the idea of SJJ is based out of Milton Ontario and that (unluckily) MMA is illeagal here so aside from traveling to compete in Quebec, SJJ is the closest thing to MMA that you can legally do in Ontario so there are a couple yearly tournaments.

Persoanlly I would like to see it grow bigger and get better organized with more tournaments all over, but that proabably wont ever happen.

They're optional. You can also wear MMA shorts, which are like speedos, only slightly less gay. Or you can wear normal shorts. And a shirt if you want to.
