You don't know your judo instructor's name which means you've probably attended three classes and you learn ninja jiu-jitsu from your friend with no credentials. Go away LARPer.

Mongo, I like your style. And I don't say that because I'm gay. (My gayness is totally unrelated.) You aren't in Kanto, are you?
I ask because I figure it's nearly time to put up another Kanto Throwup thread. (We need lots of advance notice because the Kanto Throwuppers to date have been mostly old and have to schedule things around finger injuries, which comprise a leading cause of death among over-the-hill BJJers.)
Please excuse the hijack and go back to flaming ninjas.

I'm down. I'm in Chiba and would love to play. It'll probably be a while before I can go though. Hopefully, I'll be starting work soon.

Mongo -- schweet. My sympathies re: living in Chiba. (Think I may pay for that comment down the road.)

Put your hand on your head when someone goes for the armbar. If you can time it right, you can get back into guard easily enough.

I grab pant legs for different things in Judo, but never for defending an armbar, like mcfu said, worry about getting your head back between their legs to sit back up into guard
I almost always grab my own pant leg when in kesa, and there's also a trick throw I'm working on that involves grabbing a pant leg seen here (although I also try to get the back of the heel gripped, whichever I get):

is your coach Jason Morris, Robert Berland or Kevin Ansano?
( USA Olympic Silver Medallists)
Grabbing the leg - okay whilst you are on the ground, pretty much as long as you like.
Standing - a few more restrictions.
Pistol grip - is only illegal if it is used to defend and prevent the oppoenent from gripping.
Some players spend too much time demonstrating to the refs that the oppoenent holds a pistol grip. Instead of breaking the grip and attacking. Referees are not stupid ( not all of them anyway) and they will not penalise as soon as the grip is taken.
Biceps slicer etc. Maybe not legal in judo, BUT things in groundwork can happen pretty fast and the ref's view may be obstructed. In other words, don't be surprised if somebody uses all kinds of "illegal" maneuvres on you in the ground. It's only illegal if the ref sees it. So better familiarise yourself with any kind of move.
