The wait has been long, but the 155-pound weight class is finally coming back to the UFC on March 4th, and the two matchups that herald the return of the division are anything but lightweight.
Yves Edwards, last seen in the UFC knocking out Josh ‘The Punk’ Thomson in the first round at UFC 49 in August of 2004, will represent the United States when he battles Canada’s Mark Hominick. Hominick brings a 9-4 record into his UFC debut, and he has never had a fight go the distance, so you know he and the inventor of ‘Thug-Jitsu’ will be looking to finish this bout in explosive fashion.
Another Canadian standout, Ontario’s Sam Stout, will also be making his UFC debut on March 4th when he faces Massachusetts’ Kenny Florian in a three rounder. Stout, who has won eight in a row since a 0-1-1 start to his MMA career, is fresh off back-to-back wins over Donald Ouimet in the TKO organization. Florian, who was introduced to fight fans at a member of the cast of the first season of The Ultimate Fighter series, has won two in a row, beating Alex Karalexis, and most recently, Kit Cope.
