    If you're hesitant to take opportunities that come your way, I guarantee you that means you're taking the sparring way too seriously. Sparring is not about winning, it's about practicing. If you **** up an armbar and get passed, that's just an opportunity to practice your sidecontrol escapes. If you're too concerned with winning, you'll miss that practice opportunity, along with the opportunity to practice your armbar in the first place.

    I get tapped by people that are newer than me all the time, it doesn't bother me. If it did, then I'd never be using any moves I wasn't good at, and hence would never get good at them. If I were competing in a tournament, I'd play it safer, use only moves I was confident with, stall when I had the lead, etc. etc. If I sparred that way in class, I'd suck forever.
