    When I started boxing, it was 3 x 3 (rounds, minutes); then 5 x 2; now 4 x 2. To be honest, I still like 5 x 2 best, because I'm a slow starter and usually do better in the later rounds. My opponents are always astonished that an older guy surpasses them in endurance!

    A Thai friend, a former muay Thai champ and former member of the Thai National Boxing Team (regular boxing) -- he was at the Olympics in Sydney -- is talking about moving to NZ to open a MT gym. If he follows through with his plan, I'll let you know.

    if he does get him to fire me off an email, it can be hard for new trainers here because the MT community is pretty tight knit but i will put in the good word

    Thanks, Alex. If he goes, it's likely to be next year sometime -- but I'll let you know. There seems to be no end of the "champions", but he was a very successful MT fighter before he joined the Thai National Boxing Team, and he was at the Olympics in Atlanta and Sydney. He's now completing a Master's in physical education (or something related), so I know he'd be an excellent coach.

    i think some kind of qualification in an exercise field should be mandatory for trainers, too often ive seen gyms where the instructors are doing dangerous and unneccessary warm ups and drills. although not so much in muay thai and boxing because people dont usually hang around in places where injuries of that nature are common

    lol, yeah...stay away from boxing. There's a new guy where I train that used to do tkd and he'd obnoxious and totally doesn't care about learning just showing off, stupid tkd (note: there's no chance that it's this guy's personality i swear)
