At the risk of bringing this thread back to where it started, I'm not sure why Kyokushin doesn't get ripped by the if-it-doesn't-work-in-UFC-it's-crap crowd. Kyokushin and ex-Kyokushin guys have done well in K1, etc., but not so well in MMA. Off the top of my head, the only exception I can think of is Sem Shildt (sp?). I guess it all depends on how much you consider cross-training as "taking you out" of your original style -- if Kyokushin guys who cross-train aren't Kyokushin guys any more. (Of course, every time someone says "BJJ sux standing up!" here, there's a chorus of "No way dude, we crosstrain!")

Back to where the thread was going -- I knew a guy who once knocked out a horse with a backhand between its eyes (after it bit him), in front of witnesses. No MA training, just a big tough cowboy.

JKDChick: Emus can run pretty fast when their inspired, but they are fairly stupid animals. I was just about to bring up the cassowary, when I went to the second page of the thread, and there it was. Yet another example of Aussie wildlife at it's nastiest.

Personally, I'd gas just from the effort of outrunning an emu, but a cassowary...I'd be doing my best impression of an Olympic Sprinter.

Now, to grapple a gorilla, that'd be interesting...

Isn't it mainly because Bas Rutten is a black belt in it, and openly credits it as an excellent base for full contact fighting ?

All those Filippino weapon/eye gouging arts are the same way, though, and they haven't even been tested in MMA. Splain that!

True - but he doesn't credit that as an excellent base now does he.

'cause Bas said so' is generally a pretty good argument around MMA forums. Especially on Sherdog.

It certainly holds more weight than 'cause Stold said so' or 'cause FoM? said so'....

I think Bas owes all his success to his TKD training </sarcasm>

Well he was one of the only people you'd see going for spinning high kicks in overtime during UFC matches :)

He actually seems to think not too much of his early TKD experience. Check out his website and bio.

Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog
