New to MA - deciding between two places

Hey everyone, I'm new here, but I love watching the videos on here and thought it might be worth a shot to ask a few questions.

I'm deciding between two places right now. One is called Meng's Martial Arts, in Dayton, Ohio. The Sifu is named Benny Meng, and they teach Wing Chun, and a few other styles. I've heard Benny Meng is a pretty respectable name, at least around here. I wasn't sure if any of you have heard of him or could recommend him.

The other place is called Aegis (website is www.aegispro.com) and they offer some different stuff like Muay Thai, and possibly BJJ (which I'm interested in, a lot). I don't know much else about this place, except that I'm interested in MMA's because they offer a lot of realistic defense and such.

On the other hand, Wing Chun is supposed to be very effectual too, and is a lot more traditional, which is fairly interesting itself.

Any opinions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

You've been a member of this forum for nearly two years and you really have to ask this question?

Take Wing Chun if you want to be a chain punching anti grappling weenie.
Take BJJ/MT if you want to be able to Choke/Knock people out.

But don't listen to me, I'm biased.

Well I made this account a looong time ago, and never used it until today. =D

Hmm, which of these styles has more practicality in literal defense and actual encounters, and why would you prefer one style over the other for these reasons?

better yet, start your own style, name it jeet kwan karate, and make lots of money selling it to little kids.

I don't find MT or BJJ at Aegis they seem to have a their own arts you would need to sit in and see what they do.

Are most places open to a visitor sitting in on a class/session?

They should be. if they want money from you to watch, imagine how much they'd want from you to train.

You should sit in on a class at both schools. A lot of people here are immediately going to say "MT & BJJ ftw" and they're probably right, but it really depends on what you want to do it for.

First and foremost it would be for self-defense, obviously.

After that, it would be simply for fun and conditioning.
