Army sports teams are badass. I'm on the Judo team at Ft. Bliss so I get to train during my duty hours. Granted not all day just part of the morning, but still. Also as far as competitions go the army pays for everything.

Which is why I've been busting my ass to start an All Army BJJ and MMA team.

When I wrestled, powerlifted, and boxed I got TDY. When I flew to the PanAms or Lisbon for BJJ I had to pay out of pocket.

You guys really have it good! I'd sign up for the Irish Army right now if they had a similar program.

I was watching Bush address the Kansas State University student body before I wrote this post.

It was more of a Bush bash then TKD...

Actually... Here at Ft. Bliss we do have an MMA team of sorts. It's mostly the Judo team guys, and is still in the process of being worked out. We have a really nice combatives center here so it would be nice if it got off the ground. There will be a pancrase style tournament held in July on post. I've gotta start getting ready for that.

We had the same thing in Germany and here but there is no offical US Army team. Therefore they are not legally entitled to any support from their unit or USAREC. Now a good commander that supports them will find loopholes but its not the same when you can just cut TDY orders and send pple off to do their thing.

Last year I was pissed as hell that they payed to fly soldiers back to the US compete ina a battle of the Bands but I had to come out of pocket to fly to LA for some Jiu Jitsu.

No doubt. Hell, they'd probaly make it effective even.
    Army guys aren't pussies, I believe that's a prerequisite.
    I have a feeling they won't be doing any tippy-tap point-sparring bullshit.

This topic was posted elsewhere. A gentleman brought up that Olympic TKD has no handwork, and so they should do point kurotty since they at least punch.

    Right...

lol. I just got yelled at by an instructor. Apparently my hip hop is too loud (how else should it be?) and I just laughed so hard at that comment that i'm 'disturbing the class'.

Well we don't compete in any BJJ tournaments. Of course this being El Paso there are no BJJ tournaments anywhere around here, army combative tournaments are similar but not the same. We just had one last week.
