    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Back mount escape?

Apologies if this is in any way retarded, but I couldn't find a description of this online and I didn't get a chance to ask my instructor.

Anyway, last night I was turtling frantically following a deeply flawed armbar attempt, and my, larger, opponent was trying to put his hooks in. I couldn't buck him off or find his arm for the sweep, so in desperation I got my elbows inside his thighs and pushed myself backwards, eventually popping out between his legs.

Anyone else got this to work? Is it guaranteed to fail on non white belts? Is it totally common and I just haven't noticed?

I've done this before when I really got in trouble, but I do it while posturing up so the person is lifted into the air. I then twist and dump them on their heads. This has worked against 200lbs men before.

Still, I wouldn't recommend it. You need to move out of turtle before they start putting hooks in or attack before they get behind you. Once the guy is on your back digging for hooks you're left with dangerous escapes like the one above.

Well, yeah. I didn't mean to give the impression I turtle instead of pulling guard.

One of the guys at my club however makes quite heavy use of it. Many a time I've seen people swept and submitted as they rush in to take his back.

Those apply once the guy has his hooks in. PSB's situation is immediately before the attacker gets the hooks.

Sorry, the thread title is a little misleading. What I'm talking about is just before I get rear mounted.

You probably should have gotten triangled or armbarred.

Armbarred maybe, if he can reach in far enough to fish out an elbow. But triangled? I'm not leaving one arm in without the other at any point here.

Meh, lots can happen when someone's on top of you like that.
I've been combination triangle-armbarred from something similar before.

Straight from the turtle? I'm having trouble seeing it.

Which would help him get his hooks in.
