On another note, I wouldn't mind doing some no-gi grappling with this Wing Chun promoting girl

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

I blame the media. If there was more gi-grappling in movies and PPV, I think that young people would be more keen on putting the gi on. There are many testimonials from gi grapplers that once you get used to the gi, it really feeels like the real thing.
Also, you don't need the gi if you are in a stable functional relationship. Those are really not the high risk groups...

I wouldn't say she's ugly, but she's not my type. But who is the long haired guy on the right?

Somewhere I read that about 40% of those in "stable" relationships actually have gone grappling somewhere else at some point or another. It would be wishfull thinking if they did it with a gi :viking:

Me, too. I'm going home straight to the shower. Then, I'm gonna put my gi on, and fantasize I'm grappling... I seriously need to get a girlfriend.

In any case, BJJing as consensual conduct is part of the liberty protected by the substantive component of the Fourteenth Amendment's due equal protection.

    All men are created equal.

Of course, the quality of the gi is a relevant issue. A cheap single weave gi is a thing you shouldn't consider if you are serious about BJJ.
