ok if you dont know how to punch, i punched i kid down at the park like 20 times on top of his head as hard as i could untill my nuckles bled but they never broke, i quess youve never been in a street fight. And to the person who said im just jelous becuase i spar in full gear, sorry i dont spar in full gear, we spar with gloves and instep pads becuase we dont want to injur our own students and want to beable to fight more than once a night. We allow striking to the head legs body with both hands and feet and also allow take downs and grappling so there. BLAH :eusa_hand

The whole Rorion-suing-members-of-the-family-thing was kinda stupid. Not stupid in a business sense, but just, well, stupid.

I'm gonna assume you have never seen because no one in their right minds punches to the face without gloves because the risk of injury is too great.

i know, but i said that you cant call it full contact and brag like your the hottest **** on the earth when you cant even punch to the head, thats why i said using gloves with current kumite rules with punching to the head would be more realistic. :la:

    Why is that?

You first have to understand that the DOGI was created by Jigoro Kano and adopted by karate, and pretty much everyone eles. There is a thread on this in the history section. But to answer your question first dogi had short sleeves and short pants. Most pple don't opt for the short pants anymore.

Well, I have seen old pictures of Judo guys (such as the picture of Count Koma in The Gracie Way) with sleeves that end at mid-to-upper bicep.

But it seemed to me that longer sleeves were used in the 20s and 30s (again, Judo). However, correct me if I'm wrong, Oyama started Kyokushin in the 50s. So it would seem to be a step backward. Almost retro.

Was just curious about the thought behind it.
