Using the Gi as a weapon

This is not a Joke question.

I was at a grappling tournament 2 years ago, (watching not particapating) and there was some BJJ guys in it doing very well. One thing he would do was wear his belt real loose and at the start of each match pull out his Gi from his belt so it was loose and it made it difficult for anyone to grab and use against him for a throw.

Here's my question in a BJJ tournament would it be legal to use his Gi against him and do what I guess could be called aq hockey manouver and Jersy him?

That is pull it over his head like hockey fight.

Not saying I could do it but is that allowed in competition?

No this would not be allowed. Even on the ground if the gi gets wrapped around the head, the ref. comes over and frees it.

I did it once by accident to someone when sparring and the fight went to the ground.

More of a street fighting technique.

But I forgot that once someone get's a BJJ blue belt they can evaporate cloths off their back so it's not a realistic issue to deal with in a self defence situation for BJJ

It was a simple question about BJJ rules, silly me since I don't train in BJJ I thought I would go on the BJJ forum and ask. I got the answer right away followed by two ego masterbation statments.

And before you come back with "well it was a stupid question" since you can do sliding colar chokes in grappling and therefore use Gi to apply them by extension you could use the whole Gi to tie someone up if the opportunity presented itself.

If it's not legal then it's not legal in BJJ then it's not an issue.

But as always thanks for the informative and thoughtfull competiton

Yeah, I gi choke my opponents on t3h str33t all the time.

Things I have seen done with a gi:

throws
gi chokes (not just collar chokes)
KP's Black Belt instructor taking his belt off and wrapping it around someone's neck
A brown belt tying a blue belt's hands into his own belt
arm bars where you wrap the arm up with the bottom of the jacket
Blatant Cornholioing

Things I have seen in a tournament that caused the ref to pause the match:
Blatant Corholioing
The gi coming off
Sadly, I've never seen anyone garrote a person with their own belt at a tourney
