I don't know why everyone seems to give Hughes such a huge edge on the feet. Sure, he's stronger, but he's also giving up six inches of reach, and he's not a pro-caliber striker either. Virtually all of his wins are either subs or G&P. I don't see him winning by anything other than G&P or maybe a body slam, and nobody's ever made those work against Royce. I think this is a lot more like Gracie-Shamrock III than Gracie-Sakuraba II. Hughes is a better wrestler than Shamrock, but his standup isn't any better, and he's 50 pounds lighter and no stronger. Other than Royce's age, I don't see any big reason to favor Hughes.

    My prediction: Royce pulls guard.
    BOLD!

With the time limit and "stalling" rules of the UFC, I think Matt might have the advantage for a judgement decision. If it was original UFC rules, I'd have no doubt that Gracie would win.
I didn't think it was possible, but you have made this thread dumber.

i think its going to be a repeat of royce's sakuraba fight.... deja vu
Because Hughes fights so similarly to Sak...

Other than Royce's age, I don't see any big reason to favor Hughes.
    Wetawd?

No, you just feel dumber in my presence. It's simply a matter of reference, yes I am much smarter than you will ever be, but that doesn't mean you actually become dumber when near me. You are just as dumb as you were before you came near m, you just feel dumber.

Well, considering 100% of Royce's game is pulling guard and hoping for an armbar, I think Hughes has several advantages.

    Royce is going down.
It would be cool for him to win, but i doubt it will happen.
Have to admire his balls though, at his age, taking on such an established fighter.

    Sorry, just doing some editing.

I am curious to see what Rorion has to say about all this. He has to know that this little stunt stands a really good chance of making GJJ look bad to a big group of ignorant potential cash cows . . . err trainees I mean.

yeah, either makes it look really bad, or, really GOOD.
What better way could there be to prove the reliability of GJJ to a younger generation?
Hey, i could be completely wrong, or completely right, but either way, im just spitballing here.

although royce has NO CHANCE IN HELL, I will be pulling for him just becuase i hate matt hughes that much.

edit: most of you probably don't realize this but this is MMA in 2006, not 1993 UFC 1 where no one knew any ground game. Matt Hughes knows his **** on the ground (watch GSP vs Hughes), and won't be caught in an arm bar easily.
