    Jut Sao in MMA

    Dearest Mr. Doff,

    I absolutely love your avatar.
However, that would best be described as a "jut sao", not a "pak sao".
Just when you think you've seen everything, you see a MMA clip that features Wing Chun trapping followed by a right cross. Bruce Lee, where ever he may be, must have been smiling that day.

    Luv,
    KP

If it was real wing chun, he would have hit him at the same moment his other hand knocked his opponent's lead hand away. Move along, nothing to see here.

I never said he was a Wing Chunner.

"FOLLOWED UP BY A RIGHT CROSS"

I knew it would be a matter of seconds before somebody got offended by my Jun Fan Gung Fu (JKD) propaganda.

He's just pushing his guard to the side to get in for the punch.

Exactly...that is the point of most Jun Fan trapping, whether it be Pak sao (slapping/pushing hand), Lop sao (pulling hand), Jut sao (a quick jerk), etc., etc.

But... pushing your opponent's guard out of the way is in almost all if not every striking art.

We would call that move an indoor pak sao and punch (but the punch here is not a wing chun punch) and yes the idea behind it is to clear the way first before you punch

That wasn't even CLOSE to a jut. He just batted the guy's hand away, you know, like in BOXING.

    Not even remotely a jut.
    Monkey Ninjas! Attack!
